Berlin’s RJ Gropp, who recently represented the State of Wisconsin in the Champion of Champions Championship at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, IL, has been named by the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) to the ATA 2025 Junior All American Team for the fourth straight year.
The Junior All American Team is made up of the top 25 trapshooters, ages 15-18, from the United States and Canada.
Team members must be an ATA member who has shot a minimum of 3,000 single targets, 2,000 handicap targets, and 1,000 double targets in at least three states of Canadian Provinces at any ATA qualifying shoot.
Trapshooters must shoot in each championship disciplines (singles, handicap, and doubles) and place first, second, or third to gain All American points.
Selection to the 2025 ATA All American Teams are based on points earned during the 2024 target year (starting Sept. 1, 2023 through Aug. 31, 2024).
Gropp’s singles average for the 2024 trapshooting year is 98.58% on 3,100 targets, which means he missed only 45 targets. His handicap average is 91.89% on 2,700 targets and his double average on 2,100 targets is 93.43%.
When asked “what is your greatest accomplishment in the trapshooting year?” RJ answers “Breaking 998 of 1,000 targets at the Grand American World Championships, as I broke 865 consecutive targets, missing only 1 in the first 100, and 1 target in the last 100.”
At the end of the ATA trapshooting year, points are counted and the 25 shooters with the most points make up the All American Team for the following year; in this case 2025.
There are ten categories in the ATA All-American Teams. Of the 250 All American trapshooters that are made one of these teams, only ten were from Wisconsin.
This is Gropp’s fourth time being selected to the All American Team. He holds many Berlin High School Trapshooting records and many Kettle Moraine Trapshooting Conference records, along with many state records, national and world championships.
Gropp is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO), majoring in pre-med. RJ plans to help with Berlin’s middle and high school trapshooting teams next spring.
