Wild Rose Band will see you at the fair!

Posted

It’s Fair Time in Waushara County! The Wild Rose Community Band (WRCB) invites you to their performance at the Waushara County Fair at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 23 at the Midway Music Hall.

This year, the WRCB will continue to tell stories through song reprising their performance of “Brigadoon”. Musician and director Tom Stepanek steps out in front with his vocals to a selection of songs from the musical “Brigadoon”, the story of a village hidden from the world in the mists of time and choosing between love and modern life.

Later in the WRCB’s play list, the Patterson Memorial Library Head Librarian and concert emcee, Kent Barnard, will read “Ragged Old Flag” while “America, the Beautiful” is performed by the WRCB. The poem honors the flag and our nation recounting its history through major wars and national struggles. This melding of poetry and iconic music was written and arranged by Johnny Cash in 1974.

Added to the line-up of stories told through music is the full-length symphonic scenario of “Victory at Sea” composed by Richard Rodgers, selections from “The Wizard of Oz”, and “Where the River Flows”. This last composition by James Swearingen is inspired by the story of a young boy taken by a Shawnee hunting party in 1771, a time of high tension along the Ohio River Valley between European settlers and the Shawnee nation. This event was used as a broad conceptual outline for this historical trilogy, told in three movements: “The New Frontier”, “Bring Back My Child”,  and the “Great Chief”.

The performance will be live-streamed by Kenneth Walker through the band’s public Facebook page “Wild Rose Community Band”. Please follow the WRCB Facebook page for information on future performances.

The Wild Rose Community Band is composed of musicians of all abilities. The band continues to encourage musicians from Wild Rose and surrounding communities to join us as we “band together”, keeping in mind our number one rule: “Have fun!”

The band acknowledges the use of rehearsal facilities provided by the Wild Rose Public School District, and the financial support of its generous donors at our free performances.

If you have questions, please contact the band, either through their Facebook page, Facebook Messenger, email at WildRoseCommunityBand@gmail.com, or by phone, 715-513-9333.

The WRCB hopes to see you at the fair on Sunday, July 23 at 1 p.m.

Help the WRCB follow their Rule Number One: “Have fun.”

See you at The Fair!
