Sunny skies with a light breeze set the scene for the Waushara County Ice Age Trail Alliance’s fall color celebration hike on the Chaffee Creek Segment near Coloma.
Nearly 70 hikers chose between a self-guided outing or a led hike through the area’s central sand forests, with routes of 2.5 or 5 miles. The trails offered a chance to enjoy the autumn landscape at an easy pace or even take on a longer walk adding on trail other segments.
Afterward, guests gathered for dinner at Metoyer-Brown Farm, where a charming, beautiful barn provided a welcoming setting for the evening. The 7th Fretters kept the crowd in a pleasant mood with their music gaining new followers along the way.
The celebration wound down beneath a beautiful, clear, star-filled sky—a fitting end to a day spent enjoying the outdoors and good company.
The chapter’s next event is its annual meeting in November, which will include a presentation on wolves. The Waushara County Ice Age Trail Alliance welcomes new hikers of all ages and abilities to join in exploring and enjoying the county trails.
