Wautoma Hornets score back-to-back victories over Berlin

Posted

The Wautoma Hornets took control of the diamond for back-to-back wins over the Berlin Indians this past week.
On May 5, the team traveled to Berlin for their first game of the week. It was a thrilling fight to the finish, but the Hornets took down Berlin, 11-9, in an extra-inning game.
After a back-and-forth battle, Wautoma broke the tie in the top of the 9th with heads-up baseball, and Noah Reepsdorf came through with a clutch single to extend the lead. Peyton Pica shut the door to earn the win in relief, while Rose set the tone early with a strong start on the mound.
At the plate, the Hornets racked up 12 hits and were aggressive on the bases with 6 stolen bases—Dobrecevich leading the way with 3 steals. The Hornets also recorded 10 RBIs as a team.
The Hornets had four pitchers on the mound, led by Carson Rose with 7 strikeouts. Tyler Perkins struck out 4 Indian batters, Peyton Pica 3, and Chase Caswell 2.

Berlin would attempt to make a comeback while visiting the Wautoma High School baseball diamond on May 7. This game would be a little slower than the back-and-forth battle earlier in the week, but the Hornets took hold of the game with a 1-0 hard-fought win.
Wautoma broke through in the third inning when Jett Richard and Carson Rose had back-to-back singles with Rose delivering an RBI single to score the game’s only run. Rose led the offense by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and three stolen bases. The Hornets were aggressive on the bases all game, totaling seven stolen bases.
The Hornets’ pitching staff had an impressive game, combining for a shutout while striking out 12 batters. Dobrecevich picked up the win after allowing just one hit over five scoreless innings, striking out nine and walking three. Pica came in to close the door and earn the save.
