Two Coloma businesses formed a partnership to apply for the Vibrant Spaces Grant in Coloma along with the village. Last month they found out that they were awarded funding to fulfill their dreams.
Vibrant spaces are a way for communities to provide gathering spaces for families and friends to sit, relax, and talk in the downtown area. Coloma Creamery and The Bread Box collaborated with the village to renovate their patios and parking lots so that Coloma residents and visitors will have a space to relax.
Coloma was one of 27 communities in Wisconsin that received a total of $1.1 million in Vibrant Spaces Grants to create new, attractive public spaces.
The Coloma Creamery (163 South Front Street) plans to begin its patio construction this spring with a completion date of mid-July. The patio will feature a shaded place for musicians to perform, speakers to share their knowledge, and for other events to occur. Tables, chairs, and children’s activities will re-create the back parking lot into a beautiful space for gathering. The Bread Box (157 North Front Street) plans to redo its patio and walkway in 2026. The plan is to provide a lighted walkway from the front sidewalk to the back parking lots along with an adjacent place to sit and relax.
The competitive grant is sponsored by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). Coloma is a Connect Community with WEDC, the state’s lead economic development organization. Both businesses worked closely with the village to apply for this grant and they plan to use the grant to make Coloma a better place for everyone. Watch for the transformation to occur over the next two years.
