Perhaps it is just human behavior that we get used to the treasures in our backyard and lose sight of their importance. In this case, perhaps it is the many trout streams that flow through our Central Wisconsin landscape. In our busy lives, we drive cars and trucks over bridges and culverts that cross streams, and, at best, we may have time for a glance at the stream, but no real occasion to appreciate and value them. Well, now there is a great event that will reacquaint all of us with Central Wisconsin trout streams.

The TU CARES Central Sands Celebration is funded by a grant from Bell’s Brewery, Inc. of Comstock and Kalamazoo, Michigan, and matching funds from TU CARES Chapters of Trout Unlimited. This event was facilitated by staff members of Trout Unlimited’s Great Lakes Program, Elliott Donnelley Trout Unlimited, and Wisconsin DNR Trout Habitat Management and Fisheries.
TU CARES and supporting organizations plan to continue this event as an annual feature celebrating these treasures in Central Wisconsin. We encourage community involvement from Wautoma and surrounding communities. Other Wisconsin communities annually celebrate the trout streams in their backyard. Coon Valley, Wisconsin has an annual Coon Valley Trout Fest in June, which is a community-wide event. In Minnesota, Preston’s Annual Trout Days Celebration is held in May.
