Denise Hazen is a member of the American Veterans Ladies Post 13, and she loves to help those in need. She is collaborating with an organization that has taken a new spin on fundraising. Funds2Orgs collects gently used footwear in exchange for funds. The shoes go off to third-world countries to provide footwear to people in need.
Following the Jan. 21 fire in Wautoma that engulfed a trailer in flames and claimed the lives of 8 beloved cats, Hazen is working with the victims and survivors, Andy Hedrick and Ronda Dempsey, to help them cover the cost of removing the rubble from the trailer's lot.
The total cost of removing the debris will be approximately six thousand dollars. The fundraiser is named in honor of the cats who lost their lives in the tragedy: “Soles for Souls.”
Those who are willing and able to donate their “soles” (shoes) to help raise funds.
Donated shoes are sorted into sizes and types by volunteers. Soles for Souls' goal is to fill 500 bags of shoes. Each donation bag holds 25 shoes. As of May 11, 59 out of 100 bags have been filled with donations.
Contact Denise Hazan at 920-427-6501 with any questions.
Sorting has taken place at Precision Auto garage. The space was graciously donated by owners Dale & Dawn Fadrow.
