Plans in motion for splash pad project in Coloma

Posted

During their regular meeting on April 24, the Coloma Village Board was presented with grant information for possible revitalization projects.
Sue Apps and Park Committee members presented grants that can help fund upcoming projects in the village. These projects include a possible splash pad at the Coloma Community Park and other revitalization projects downtown.
Concerns about the verbiage of the draft application for the DNR Grant towards park improvements were brought up, with concerns about needing to have at least half of the funds. Since this grant needs to run through the village, board members wanted to clarify that they would not be held liable. The park committee ensured that they would be doing the fundraising, but the application draft needed to be submitted at least a year in advance. The board can deny the grant if selected, depending on if the funds are available at that time. This grant will match the funds raised towards the splash pad project. The board approved the committee to go ahead with the application.
The board also approved plans for the Vibrant Spaces Grant and adopted the Comprehensive Outdoor Rec Plan from Waushara County in draft form.
Plans for the upcoming Hillside Pub Cornhole/Bags Tournament were also brought to the board. Dan Miller, owner of Hillside Pub, requested that the board close down N. Church Lane on Saturday, June 14 for the day-long event. Miller also asked if it would be possible to borrow six park tables for the events. The board approved the road closure and granted permission to borrow the tables.

Proceeds from the tournament will support Tunnels to Towers, a nonprofit that provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families. In 2024, Hillside Pub was able to raise $4,554.64 for the non-profit.
During the safety report, Deputy Steve Kasubaski informed the board that the new dashcam and computer have been working well. Kasubaski also reported that an interdiction was completed with the County Sheriff. He was able to issue four citations at this time.
Director of Public Works Bud Palazzolo informed the community that the stripes on the roads, crosswalks, and parking lots will be painted in mid-June before the Chicken Chew. Flags and banners will also be hung up in the village before Memorial Day.
The next regular board meeting is set for Thursday, May 29 at the Anna Follette Community Center.
