At the regular monthly meeting of the Wautoma Common Council, Administrator Tommy Bohler gave the oath of office to Hayden Lauritzen and Dani Jo Burns, the newest members of the City of Wautoma Police Department.
Administrator Bohler reported he carried out the bid process for the Waushara County YMCA project, with six bids received, and the low bid was received from Ellis Stone Construction Inc. The bids were reviewed, and the council approved a bid from Ellis Stone Construction Co. Inc., Stevens Point, for $8.6 million to construct the Waushara County YMCA project. Bohler also said he was appointed to the YMCA – Stevens Point Board of Directors.
The council approved a picnic license for the Wautoma Masonic Union Inc. for June 23, 2025.
Several ordinances were approved including a new ordinance including Chronic Nuisance Properties where if the renter of a residence is accused of a nuisance three times in 120 days, the owner of the property can be sited. Also, an ordinance was approved Regarding Animals At Large was amended to meet the criteria of wireless fencing, electronic dog collars, etc. The council also passed an amended ordinance allowing dogs on leashes at Bird Creek Park, the cemetery, and other public parks. To address and control bullying, an Anti-Bullying Measures ordinance was adopted where if a person is under the age of 18 and bullies or intimidates another, the parents will get a warning and if it continues fines will be assessed.
Wautoma City Police Chief Paul Mott reported on training for boat safety, Spanish for Law Enforcement - FVTC, Treatment Court Conferences, CPR, and Crisis Intervention. The events he and the department attended in the past month included Blue Ribbon Kids Day, DARE Graduation, Waushara County Run for Hope, Drug Take Back, Shara Olympics, Special Needs Prom, and National Day of Prayer.
Mayor John Nixon said he attended the Wautoma Area Fire Department meeting where Josh Grenier was named Chief and Pat Handel, Assistant Chief. The former chief, Larry Buntrock chose to step down as he had served as chief for many years. Mayor Nixon said that he will be working with area legislatures to see if there is funding available for underground electricity on the alley behind businesses once the demolition is completed and before any paving begins. He said he is also working to see if there is interest in a factory moving into the Mayville Engineering building on Division Street.
The next meeting of the Wautoma Common Council will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 16 at Wautoma City Hall.
