The Almond-Bancroft Lady Eagles opened their season Monday night with a 54-41 victory over the visiting Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks.
The Almond-Bancroft girls got off to a slow start on the game, finally gaining their footing midway through the first half. By the time the buzzer sounded halftime, they had recovered and found their rhythm and the lead. The Warhawks battled their way back in the early minutes of the first half but quickly found themselves falling further behind, with the Lady Eagles taking advantage of gaps Weyauwega’s over-extended press defense and a rash of turnovers to widen the gap.
Aaliyah Newby led the charge for Almond-Bancroft, scoring 17 points on the night, Mya Dernbach and Maddy Potts each added 10 points on the night.
The Lady Eagles next home game will be Friday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. when they’ll host Pittsville.
