Eagles take tough loss to Adams-Friendship, rebound vs Amherst and Pittsville

Posted
The Almond-Bancroft Eagles had their work cut out for them as they entered the last week of January with a packed schedule. A weather related reschedule had them playing three games in four days, capping it off with a conference meet up against the Pittsville Panthers.

The Eagles opened their week with a Jan. 27 home game, hosting the Adams-Friendship Green Devils. This was a tough opponent for the Eagles to open their week with and the game was close from start to finish. The Eagles managed to take a one point lead into the locker room at half-time but ultimately came up short, losing 50-44 in a game that might’ve ended differently if not for any of a number of small errors. Ayden Phillips led the Eagles for the night with a double-double, scoring 26 and pulling down 16 rebounds. SaVont Johnson led the Green Devils scoring with 24 points.

The Eagles rebounded the next night with a 50-24 road victory in Amherst and returned home to face Pittsville on Jan. 30. Almond-Bancroft came out strong and established a lead quickly, taking an eight point advantage to half-time. In the second half they set right to work expanding that lead, ultimately winning 53-32 and expanding their conference record to 8-0. Ayden Phillips once again led the team with 25 points, including a rare 3-pointer from the corner, reminding the visiting Panthers not to ignore his presence when he steps out of the post. Dawson Luther led Pittsville with 11 points.

You can catch the Eagles in action again this Friday, Feb. 7 when they host the Pacelli Cardinals, who are currently ranked second behind Almond-Bancroft in the CW South conference. The Eagles won their previous meeting 58-49. The game starts at 7 p.m. in Almond.
