March 13, 1924-Feb. 28, 2014

Ardene A. Thom, 89, Berlin, died peacefully early Friday morning, Feb. 28, 2014, at Juliette Manor Nursing Home of Berlin.

Ardene was born on March 13, 1924, in Racine, one of the twin daughters of Frank and Wayve Atkins Ocain.  She was a graduate of Redgranite High School, with the class of 1942.

She married Ervin K. Thom on March 17, 1945 at Eastside Lutheran Church of Madison.  They shared 55 loving years together before his death on May 3, 2000. During their years together they were blessed with a daughter Karen and four sons, Russell, Eugene, Gerald, and Charles. They completed their families with dear son and daughters-in-law, beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ardene was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Berlin, a former member of the Jolly Jills Homemakers of the Berlin area.  She was the heart of her home, her joy was her family, sharing her cooking, watching westerns and especially wrestling matches with her grandsons on TV.  She was supportive of the hunting seasons with food and encouragement for all.  She also enjoyed her winters in Texas with her Ervin, and bingo with the girls.

Ardene is survived by her daughter: Karen (Richard) Schultz, Appleton; four sons: Russell (Kathleen) Thom, Eugene (Kathleen) Thom, Gerald (Susan) Thom, and Charles (Deborah) Thom, all of Berlin; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; twin sister: Adalyn, Phoenix, AZ; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband: Ervin; grandson: Steven; and brother: Wayne.

Visitation and funeral services were held Tuesday, March 4 at Saint John Lutheran Church of Berlin. The Pastor Bryan Lundquist officiated.  Burial will take place at the Foster Road Cemetery of Redgranite.

Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home, Berlin, assisted the family with arrangements.

Ardene’s family would like to especially thank the caregivers of Juliette Manor; who enriched her life with their wonderful care, support, and love.
