The Wautoma Hornets team lost 11-1, lasting six innings in non-conference action on April 5 at Bird Creek Park against the visiting Tomah Timberwolves.
Tomah scored three runs in the second inning which was essentially all the run support they needed. The Lady Timberwolves exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning as a sloppy Hornet defensive front allowed some extra outs to take place.
Wautoma’s lone run came across in the fourth inning as Liv Cieslik got on by a two-out dropped third strike then stole second base with Larissa Piechowski providing the Wautoma’s offense only hit with an RBI single to right center field.
Piechowski started the game going 3 2/3 before being removed due to throwing extra pitches that could have been prevented as she wore down. Cieslik and Alexis Swanke would finish the pitching responsibilities for the Lady Hornets.
“Larry pitched well while hitting her spots only giving up two earned runs; it was a case of giving extra outs that eventually did her in,” stated Coach Butt. He added how the team ran into two quality pitchers with the Coach Dan Wall’s sophomore daughter chucking low 60’s at times which the Lady Hornet hitters struggled with timely to collision (barrel to ball).
Wautoma dropped to 3-3 overall on the season.
