Wild Rose is building community spirit through local events

Posted

The Wild Rose Village Board heard from Dylan Testin on some new and returning events that are being planned in the area during their regular meeting on April 2.

Testin started off by touching base on some events that were discussed at previous meetings. Old Fashioned Fest is set for Saturday, June 7 with the same layout as last year. Board Trustee Tom Lauritzen expressed concerns with the drop-off point on the state highway, with worries about congesting traffic on the busy day. Police Chief Nate Klapoetke informed the board that there would be an electric sign warning incoming traffic of the event taking place.

Another new event is coming to Wild Rose this year. The first-ever Oktoberfest will take place outside of Slugger’s on Saturday, Sept. 20. Testin informed the board that he would need to request a road closure that evening for dancing after the Classic Car Show (also that same day).

Testin is also exploring the possibility of holding a Christmas Parade and Cookie Walk through Wild Rose. Feelers will be put out to local businesses to see if there are enough participants interested. Consideration of surrounding communities holiday events were taken into consideration. The Wild Rose event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Last year, Slugger’s Christmas event and toy drive was able to provide 136 kids with three gifts each from 51 families. Testin recalled hearing children say that it was the first Christmas gift they had ever received. “The need to be there to help make sure all kids have the Christmas experience,” stated Testin. Their goal for next Christmas is to have gifts for 300 kids.

A brief discussion was held by the board regarding Ordinance #2025-01 Swimming Pool Requirements. The way it was written left some room for speculation on what pools would need a permit. The ordinance committee will review it and bring it back to the board at the next meeting.

During the fire report, it was noted that a truck breakdown caused the fire budget to go over $4,000 this month. The breakdown occurred while the truck was out on a call, so there was no other option but to tow and repair it.

Library Director Kent Barnard informed the board that National Library Week takes place April 6-12. The library will have treats all week to celebrate.

Upcoming library events include: A Bluebird House demonstration on Saturday, April 12; movie screening on Tuesday, April 15 at 5 p.m.; and a book signing by Jerry and Susan Apps on Saturday, April 26.

In other news, the board approved:

*A new clerk computer and two monitors, which were already in the budget.

*Class B (beer) and Class C (wine only) licenses for Pumphouse Pizzeria LLC.

*Temporary Class B license for Wild Rose Fire Department on April 26.

*An Operator’s License for Morgan VanDyke and Corinne Jaeger.
