Wautoma/Wild Rose Girls Wrestling Team wins first Regional Championship

Posted

The Wautoma/Wild Rose girls wrestling team made program history Friday night, capturing its first-ever Regional Championship at Wautoma High School on February 13. Competing in front of a home crowd, the girls delivered a balanced and determined performance across all weight classes.
The team’s success was built on consistent scoring, clutch wins in consolation rounds, and strong finishes in championship matches. Two wrestlers stood atop the podium. At 152 pounds, Brynlee Vaughan earned the regional title. Laynie Vaughan followed suit at 165 pounds, securing another championship and key team points.
Nereida Sauceda (100 pounds) and Kaylee O’Neal (107 pounds) each powered their way to second-place finishes, battling through to earn runner-up honors. The team’s depth proved crucial as Morgan Meyer (138 pounds) and Riley Burton (185 pounds) captured third-place, adding valuable points to the team total. Ella Rogall (114 pounds) and Cecilia Flores (126 pounds) each earned fifth-place finishes, while Addison Kirn (120 pounds) and Lesly Lezama (132 pounds) rounded out the lineup with sixth-place performances.
The valuable team points across every weight class lifted Wautoma/Wild Rose to the regional crown — a milestone achievement for the program and a proud moment for the school and community. With history now made, the regional championship stands as a testament to the unity and resilience of this year’s squad.
