On May 13, the Wautoma/Wild Rose girls’ soccer team traveled to Regis to play a conference game.
Both teams started with looks at the goal, with a nice goal kick from Brynlee Vaughan to Laynie Vaughan was able to get a goal on the Regis keeper. Regis was able to get 2 goals back to back before half.
We made some adjustments to try to stop Regis, but they were able to get a few more goals in the second half. Becca Button played in most of the game with 6 saves. Khloe Wolff got her first opportunity to play in goal at the end of the game. She had 5 saves for the game. Wautoma/Wild Rose faced a 1-7 loss to their conference opponents.
On May 16, the team hosted New London. Both teams started off strong. Early in the game Laynie Vaughan had been tripped in the box to give Wautoma/Wild Rose a PK. Laynie was able to get a goal to give us the lead. With several good looks and Laynie’s speed, she was able to get 2 more goals before halftime, with one being assisted by Yasmin Loa, Brynlee Vaughan.
After halftime, New London answered with a goal. But just a few minutes later, Laynie Vaughan got another past New London keeper with an assist from Maren Lippert. New London still brought the pressure with 2 quick goals. Lidia Thompson had great placement in the box with an opportunity to add another goal, but sent the ball over the top. With a nice over-the-top ball for a goal from Shyann Royston to Laynie Vaughan. New London got lucky on a free kick with just seconds left to get a goal.
Tough game played by both teams, but went in favor of Wautoma/Wild Rose with a close 5-4 win.
