Wautoma track announces sectional winners

Aspen Groskreutz qualifies for State

Posted

The Wautoma track and field team recently wrapped up a successful postseason run, highlighted by strong performances at both the Regional and Sectional meets.
At Regionals, the team secured personal bests across the board. Leana Biesek and Dexter Schumacher set new personal records in the jumps, while Maddie Scharnhorst placed second in both shot put and discus. Marshel Woyak (Long Jump), Dexter Schumacher (Triple Jump), and Aspen Groskreutz (Long Jump) all finished as Regional Champions.
Coach Chris Lipke Regional thoughts:
“We had a fantastic turnout at the regional meet! Despite facing the heat, storms, and the need to return the next day, our athletes competed incredibly well, achieving personal bests for everyone.
Leana and Dexter both made impressive strides in the horizontal jumps, each setting a new personal records. Maddie Scharnhorst also surprised us with two second-place finishes in the shot and discus to qualify for sectional for the first time.

Aspen, Marshel, and Dexter were our Regional Champions in the Long Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump.”
The momentum continued at the Sectional meet:
•Aspen Groskreutz won the Sectional Championship in the Long Jump and qualified for the State meet in three events: the 300m Hurdles, Long Jump, and Triple Jump.
•The Girls 4x100m and 4x200m Relay Teams (Ellie Chase, Elizabeth Zuluaga, Amara Schumacher, Amy Chamberlin, and Leana Biesek) placed 12th and 13th, with both times breaking into the school’s top-10 historical list.
•Marshel Woyak placed 6th in the 200m, 7th in the 100m, and 10th in the Long Jump.
•Maddie Scharnhorst finished 9th in shot put and 12th in discus.
•Brooklyn Bruning took 11th in the 800m.
•Elijah Graser placed 14th in the High Jump.
•Dexter Schumacher finished 16th in the Triple Jump.
Coaches’ Sectional thoughts:
“We had a great team presence, and the weather was much nicer than at the regionals, which made the kids eager to compete.
Our 2-girl relay saw significant improvements in both the 4x100 and 4x200, and they managed to crack the top 10 list in school history for both. This is a young relay team and their future is bright.
The rest of the qualifiers also performed well, with Marshel securing 7th and 6th places in the 100 and 200, and Elijah finishing 14th in the high jump.
Aspen was in great form as she prepares for her senior year, qualifying in all three of her events and it was wonderful to see her team cheering her on.”
