Traveling artist shares the beauty of Wild Rose

José Arrieta’s Statement: .Photography is a form of poetry, transforming anecdote into a recurring memory, where anthotype, with its fragile nature, functions as a record endowed with the ability to fade, becoming a blurred an ephemeral trace as unstable as the memories we forget for long periods of time, yet which, in a single instant, return, and force us to weave their meaning into our lives. In that return, the image seeks to re-signify the moment: it renders it vivid and inhabited, though never occurs.

My name is José Arrieta. I am an independent visual artist from Tlaxcala, Mexico.
In 2023, I had the opportunity to live in Wild Rose for two months. During that time, I walked through the village and photographed spaces that quietly shape daily life. Those images stayed with me.
Two years later, I materialized that experience into an artwork titled “The Sun Shone Over Wild Rose.” The piece is currently exhibited at Teatro Xicoténcatl, in Tlaxcala, Mexico, as part of the exhibition “LO QUE NO SE DICE”, which will be on view until February of 2026. The work explores memory, nostalgia, and how a place can continue to inhabit us even after we leave.
Now, in a way, a part of Wild Rose now lives in another space and context, carrying its presence beyond borders.
