The Wautoma Boys Basketball team hosted Westfield Pioneers for the annual battle of “Ozzie the Goat” on Jan. 30.

The Hornet’s jumped out to an early 6-0 lead. The Hornets and Pioneers traded baskets until Westfield took control of the game when they switched to their 1-3-1 zone defense. Wautoma struggled against the zone with perimeter shooting and turnovers. The Pioneers topped the Hornets with a 70-43 win, giving them possession of “Ozzie” this year.

The Hornets were led in scoring by senior Taylor Krueger and sophomore Peyton Pica with 15 points each, while junior Skyler Royston added 13 points. Taylor Krueger led the Hornet’s in rebounding with 6 and freshman Carson Rose grabbed 4. Krueger also dished out 4 assists, while Pica and Royston each had 3.

Austin Lyon topped both scoreboards for the Pioneers, racking up 31 points. The Pioneers other top scorers were Sam Berruecos with 16 and Keegan Hockerman with 15. Hockerman also made 14 rebounds.
