Patterson Memorial Library JobPod will aid local job seekers

Grand opening on April 8

The Patterson Memorial Library in Wild Rose has received a JobPod, a small, quiet room dedicated to job seekers, through a Department of Workforce Development grant that was received by the Brown County Library and Nicolet Federated Library System.
“The JobPod is a space for job seekers to actively search for available positions, apply and interview, as well as create and refine resumes through the Department of Workforce Development,” reported Kent Barnard, Library Director.
“We are excited to have been chosen as one of only six libraries in the state to receive a JobPod through this grant, and we are very pleased to offer space to Waushara and other nearby counties for a private, relatively soundproof space for those in need of work,” Barnard continued. The JobPod is a cooperative venture with the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board.
“JobPods are being placed at libraries because libraries are easy to get to, offer support, and are safe, trusted sites,” noted Barnard, “Having the JobPod here helps remove barriers for employment seekers - libraries are available, and we also offer books on resume writing, interviewing techniques, and this space is a welcome addition to our space.”
The JobPod is 4’X4’ and job seekers can check out a laptop to use in the pod and may also purchase a USB thumb drive for a nominal fee to save their resumes and searches. The laptop has a link installed to go directly to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development which will enable users to quickly get to the site and work on their searches, resume, or interview with a prospective employer.

While not completely soundproof, the JobPod is very quiet, and outside noise is kept to a minimum, while also keeping private the information given to prospective employers. The laptop is equipped with a privacy screen, which only allows the screen to be read by the person directly in front of the laptop.
“Presently the JobPod is available on a first-come, first-served basis, but as it becomes more popular, we may implement a sign-up schedule,” observed Barnard. “We really feel that this is a boon to our area, as it gives people a quiet, professional-looking space to interview, as well as a private space that allows them to work in peace,” gushed Barnard.
There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome the JobPod to Wild Rose and Waushara County, held on Tuesday, April 8 at 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be available. All are welcome to attend, especially businesses, schools, elected officials, and job seekers.
For more information, contact the library Director, Kent Barnard, or the library staff at 920-622-3835. The Patterson Memorial Library is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to Noon. Located at 500 Division St, in Wild Rose, the library is easily accessible from State Highway 21 – just one block off the highway to the east.
