Olivia Eckert-Cieslik drove in six runs on two hits to lead Wautoma Hornets past the Wild Rose Wildcats 11-1 on April 1 at Bird Creek Park.
Eckert-Cieslik hit an inside the park grand slam in the sixth inning and a two RBI single in the fourth inning. She also toed the rubber pitching a complete game while giving up one earned run on two hits, four walks and striking out twelve.
Wild Rose got on the board in the first inning on a lead off infield single by speedy Cali Havlowitz with Lilly Luchini tripled to score her. Wautoma knotted it up with Eckert-Cieslik drawing a lead-off walk, stolen base, passed ball and then scoring on an Alexis Swanke sacrifice RBI.
In the bottom of the second, Wautoma broke up the tie when Kelcey Michalski laid down a RBI sacrifice bunt, scoring one run followed with a RBI single by Addison Kirn to extend the lead to 3-1. The Lady Hornets added a couple runs in the fourth on Eckert-Cieslik’s two-out, two RBI single to stretch the lead to 5-1. Wautoma erupted for six runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Eckert-Cieslik hit an inside the park grand slam, Cami Nitz tripled scoring one run and Larissa Piechowski singled scoring the final run.
The Lady Hornets collected ten hits in the game. “It was great to see Olivia own it in both her pitching and hitting. She did a solid job of controlling and mixing her pitches to offset the Wildcats timing,” mentioned Coach Butt.
Eckert-Cieslik (2x4, HR, 6 RBI’s, 2 SB’s, 2 runs), Nitz (2x4, 3B, RBI, run) and Kirn (2x2, RBI, sac, run) led the way with Swanke, Piechowski, Gustke and Rogall adding a hit. This game brought Wautoma’s record to 2-2 overall while the Wild Cats fall to 0-1 in this early season contest.
