Finding a forever home is just the beginning for Waushara County’s adoptable dogs, and now, thanks to a partnership with Unleashed Manners owner Ryan Mueller, new adopters can give their pups an extra boost toward success.
Every dog adopted from WCAS receives four complimentary training sessions, helping them learn the skills they need to be confident, well-behaved companions. The hands-on guidance from Unleashed Manners ensures that tails wag, bonds strengthen, and families start off on the right paw. With this partnership, WCAS isn’t just placing pets - we’re building joyful, lasting connections that make both dogs and humans feel right at home!

Finding the right dog for you:
Choosing the right dog for you is not quite as simple as walking into a shelter and picking the cutest one in the lineup of kennels! Though this may seem like the best choice in the heat of the moment, here are some important things to consider when looking for a dog to join your family:

Research different breeds - All dogs are bred for different purposes, and can require different types of care and exercise to meet their needs. You may like the look of a certain breed; however, their breed characteristics may not make them the best fit for you! Make sure that you do your research in order to pick a breed that best fits your lifestyle.
•Consider the rest of your household - Do you have other pets at home, or young children? If so, picking a dog that has a prior history of doing well with other animals and children may be in your best interest! If you fall in love with a dog that does not have much background information, make sure you perform proper slow introductions. You want to set everyone currently in your home, and your new dog, all up for success!
•Consider your lifestyle - Are you active? A higher energy dog may mesh well with you! Or, do you prefer to spend your free time relaxing at home? That’s perfectly fine too, just look for a dog that would enjoy relaxing with you!
•Don’t be afraid to ask questions! When adopting a dog from WCAS, we are here to help you find the best possible fit for your home. Adopting a dog can be a 10+ year commitment, so we want to make sure you are set up for optimal success from the start!
