On Feb. 13, the Almond Lady Eagles traveled to the Wild Rose Ladycats for their Box Out Cancer event and an action-packed night of basketball action.
The evening started with the 7th and 8th Grade Girls’ basketball, with the Ladycats taking the win in both games. The high school girls were next to take the court. The JV Ladycats took the win after a hard-fought game with a final score of 23 to 16.
The Wild Rose Drumline made an appearance as well in between the JV and Varsity games and gave a great glow-in-the-dark performance.
The Varsity girls ended the night. The Lady Eagles went into the second half with an 18-point lead under their belt. The Eagles increased that lead throughout the second half. Despite the Ladycats efforts, the Lady Eagles ran away with the win, with a final score of 56 to 32.
But the star of the evening was the more than 30 raffle baskets donated by various businesses and community members to raise funds for the ThedaCare Ride Share Program. The ThedaCare Ride Share Program is a program that helps people facing cancer with transportation to appointments and treatments. Tickets were sold throughout the entire night for the baskets, with the winners being announced at halftime of the varsity game. It was a night full of raffle baskets, people, and basketball, all in support of Box Out Cancer.
