The Westfield Lady Pioneers jumped into WIAA playoff action with a #6 ranking and a 15-11 overall record.
The basketball showdown between the Westfield and the Richland Center Lady Hornets on Feb. 24 started with a strong Lady Hornets lead, which was ready to challenge the Lady Pioneers to a tough game.
However, it was apparent that after some initial difficulty completing passes, the Westfield Pioneers girls’ basketball team brought their A-game to the court, displaying incredible teamwork, skill, and determination. The Lady Pioneers’ defense was solid, making it difficult for the Hornets to penetrate and score. Halftime found the Lady Hornets behind at 29-16.
As the second half began, the Pioneers’ determination to win became even more evident, as they made crucial steals and scored key points. The Pioneers’ relentless defense and strategic plays began to wear the Hornets down. Westfield emerged victorious with a final score of 64-24.
The team would then travel to face off against Mauston (#3) on Feb. 27. Fans were kept on the edge of their seats as the teams kept an evenly matched pace. The game would go into overtime, with the Lady Golden Eagles swooping in to take the win by only one-point, 48-49, bringing the 25/26 Lady Pioneer season to a close.
