The Almond-Bancroft Lady Eagles opened their Softball season at home on April 3rd with a conference matchup against Port Edwards Blackhawks.
The Lady Eagles came out swinging and racked up seven runs in the first inning. While the visiting Blackhawks wouldn’t allow that many runs in another inning, they never got the chance to recover either.
Riya Ceballos pitched the first three innings, earning the win for the Lady Eagles with 6 strikeouts and no hits. Almond-Bancroft extended their lead to 8 in the second, 12 in the third, and closed the game out by reaching 15-0 in the 4th inning. Lexi Carlton pitched one inning in relief with 1 strike out and no hits. Mya Dernbach and Lexi Carlton both added two hits to the team total of 10.
The Lady Eagles followed up their opening win by hosting Marathon on April 4. The Marathon team was more prepared to face the Almond-Bancroft batting lineup, but still allowed 6 hits on the night.
The Lady Eagles first got on the board in the second inning when Sophia Chapa hit a line drive to double to center field, sending two runners home ahead of her. Both teams would score single runs in the third to bring the score to 3-1 in Almond-Bancrofts favor. After a Marathon homerun in the top of the 5th brought the score to 3-2 the Lady Eagles managed their most productive inning in the bottom of the 5th, adding four more and reaching the 7-2 lead they would keep for the remainder of the game.
Lexi Carlton pitched all seven innings and logged in 12 strikeouts. She surrendered just 6 hits in the game and walked one. Mya Dernbach and Lacie Bradley both had two hits for the Lady Eagles and Bradley and Sophia Chapa each drove in two runs.
