The Almond-Bancroft Eagles played their first home game of the season on Dec. 3, hosting the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds.
The Thunderbirds quickly took control of the game, eventually winning 49-33. The disparity in scores might have been more pronounced if not for a short scoring run in the second half. That run showcased what the Eagles team is capable of; high-pressure defensive play, a quick offense, and strong play under the basket.
The rest of the game, however, belonged to Iola. The Eagles seemed unable to find their rhythm offensively, often passing around the perimeter while a tight Thunderbirds defense left them settling for less than desirable opportunities at the basket and generated points from turnovers and easily won rebounds.
Iola-Scandinavia’s Alexander Robbins led the game in points, scoring 17 on the night, followed by The Eagles Clarence Pratt and Ayden Phillips, who scored 11 and 10, respectively.
The Eagles play their next home game on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., when they’ll host Port Edwards.
