Dernbach breaks records as Lady Eagles rout Tri-County

The Lady Eagles hosted the Tri-County Lady Penguins on Jan. 24th for the second conference match of the season between the two teams. The Lady Eagles won their previous meeting 56-12 and jumped out to a 17 point lead to get this game started in the same direction.

The Almond-Bancroft girls opened the game in a full court press and their high-intensity defense led them into a 32 point halftime advantage.

Three Lady Eagles players scored in the double digits for the night with Junior Mya Dernbach setting a new school record for scoring in a single game. Dernbach scored 38 points, shooting better than 80% with 18 of 22 attempted shots finding their way home. Aaliyah Newby also delivered an impressive performance, logging a double-double with 17 points and 11 assists for the night. Senior Forward Madalyn Potts added 10 points to the Lady Eagles scoring efforts.

Lady Penguins top scorer spot was earned by Courtney Hildebrandt with 10 points, including two 3-pointers. Makenna Rettler added 8 points with one 3-pointer of her own, while Natalie Rasmussen scored 6 points. Addyson Rettler also helped her team with 8 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles will be back in action at home again on Monday, Feb. 10th at 7 p.m. when they’ll host the Pacelli Cardinals. Due to games being rescheduled, this will be the second of two games they’ll play against their conference rivals within less than a week.
