On March 25, 2026, AMVETS Post 13 of Redgranite will commemorate 80 years of dedicated service to the community. The post is named in honor of Marine Corps Sergeant Melvin Wendt and Army Private Lawrence Johannas, both of whom were killed in action during World War II.
Throughout its history, Post 13 has remained an active and valued part of Waushara County. Members contribute through Memorial Day events, honor guard duties, partnerships with local schools, and a variety of community support initiatives. The Post, along with its Auxiliary, Riders, and Sons, consistently provides assistance to veterans and families in need—from annual holiday family adoptions to financial support for emergency dental care.
Located at 829 Division Street in Redgranite, AMVETS membership is open to anyone currently serving or honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves. The recently formed Sons Squadron welcomes sons and stepsons of past or present service members.
More information about joining the Post, Auxiliary, Riders, or Sons is available at Amvetspost13.org. The next major event is the annual Chicken Barbeque on May 25, 2026. All are invited to attend, enjoy a meal, and support the veterans of Waushara County. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at communicationspost13@amvetspost13.org.
