Almond-Bancroft Lady Eagles takes first trip to State

For the first time in 41 years, the Almond-Bancroft Lady Eagles competed for the WIAA Division 5 Softball Championship.
On June 12 the team stepped up to bat on Goodman Diamond in Madison against the Thorp Lady Cardinals. The Lady Eagles were able to rack up points through stolen bases, scoring a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Lady Cardinals was able to close the gap to lead by one point after the second inning.
Almond-Bancroft would then add five runs in the bottom of the second, four runs in the third, and then six runs in the fourth, winning the semi-final 18-3 in four innings.
The Lady Eagles returned to Goodman Diamond on June 14 to face off against the Belmont Lady Braves for a chance at the Division 5 State Championship title.
Belmont came backed by strong pitching and hitting. Belmont captured an early lead after three runs in the first inning. Belmont’s lead extended in the fourth after adding four more runs.
The Lady Eagles offense finally got moving at the top of the sixth, finally getting in a run with the help of Mya Dernbach. Kerstyn Clark and Tia Dernbach were able to capture back-to-back singles, leading to two more runs. This would be the final scoring of the game, finishing the Lady Eagles season with a 3-8 loss to Belmont.
The Lady Eagles season ended with a 25-7 overall record, and a 10-2 record in the Central Wisconsin-South Conference.
