Hattie Bray, Wautoma, named Big East Conference Freshman of the Week

Marquette University middle blocker Hattie Bray was named the Big East Conference Freshman of the Week for women’s volleyball, while Carsen Murray earned a spot on the league’s weekly honor roll, it was announced last week. Bray is a 2021 Wautoma High School graduate.

Bray, a redshirt freshman, hit .632 (12-0-19) with no hitting errors in a 2-0 week with a pair of sweeps of Seton Hall and St. Jon’s. She posted six kills and three blocks against each squad with averages of 2.00 kills and 1.00 blocks per set. She Hit .600 (6-0-10) against the Pirates on Friday and .667 (6-0-9) against the Red Storm on Saturday.

It is the second weekly honor for Bray, who also earned honor roll recognition on Oct. 3 for her play against UConn and Providence.

Murray, the Big East’s leader in hitting percentage and blocks, posted 11 blocks over the weekend, including a career-high nine in the sweep of St. John’s on Saturday. She hit .500 (11-1-20) for the week with 2.20 kills per set and hit .636 (7-0-11) against the Red Storm, the league’s No. 3 team.

The No. 16 Golden Eagles, who climbed three spots in Monday’s AVCA Coaches Poll, continued league play with matches at DePaul and at Butler.
