Wildcats win at Wautoma
While the Wautoma boys basketball teams were able to win enough contests at the youth level to secure the annual Highway 22 Shootout trophy, the Wild Rose boys varsity team was able to dominate final event of the day with a 64-35 win.
“Overall, I thought this was a very impressive performance by our kids,” stated Head Coach James Komp. “Tommy Friday and Alec VandeCastle both did an outstanding job, and David (Lauritzen) also gave us a huge lift off the bench.”
The Wildcats used a stifling defense to hold the Hornets to 28 percent shooting overall and 3 of 23 from behind the arc. The Wild Rose defense would also pressure Wautoma into 17 turnovers and held a 46-25 rebounding advantage.
Early on it looked like Wautoma was going to be the team to beat as they jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead, however, the Wildcats regrouped to outscore the hosts 63-28 over the rest of the contest.
