Wautoma falls to Vanguards in extra innings, 12-9

The Wautoma baseball team fell to the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards 12-9 at home after nine innings during the home non-conference game on May 19.

The Hornets took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Wisconsin Heights answered with four runs in the top of the second to squash any lead Wautoma had going into the bottom of the second.

It was here the Hornets would score three more runs for a 6-4 lead through the third and the fourth innings, but the Vanguards would show offensive ability in the fifth with two runs to tie the game and two more in the sixth for a 8-6 lead.

The Hornets wouldn’t let Wisconsin Heights walk away with the win, scoring two more runs to tie the game at 8-8 heading in to the seventh inning. Both teams would be shut down in the seventh and eighth innings, but the Vanguards would surge ahead earning four runs in the ninth.

It would be up to Wautoma to score in the bottom of the ninth inning to make the game go into a 10th inning, but with only one run scored it wouldn’t be enough to secure the non-conference win.
