Tri-County upset by Newman Catholic, 59-43

The No. 1 seeded Tri-County Penguins traveled to Marshfield on March 1 to take on the No. 2 seeded Newman Catholic Fighting Cardinals in the first round of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 5 girls basketball sectional playoffs.

Despite their efforts, the Penguins were unable to keep up with the Newman’s scoring and continued to trail the other team throughout the game. Tri-County would close the scoring gap but the Fighting Cardinals would respond with another basket to extend their lead again.

The Penguins ultimately fell 59-43 to Newman Catholic, who moved on and won the second round of the sectional playoffs and will be headed to Green Bay to play in the sectional finals.
