Tri-County slides past Loyal, 60-51

The Tri-County girls basketball team was looking for redemption when they hosted Loyal in the second round of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 5 Regional Playoffs on Feb. 23. The Greyhounds, who went on to win the 2017 Division 5 State Championship, had ended the Penguins’ stellar season last year, with a win in the WIAA Sectional Playoffs.

The Penguins were ready for a fight to the finish and were ultimately able to pull off a 60-51 victory over the Greyhounds earning a ticket to the regional final.

The first half of the game seemed to go rather smoothly for Tri-County as they outscored the Greyhounds 34-24, including 3-pointers from seniors Amber Baehman, Alexis Rodriguez and Brooke Hopkins.

The second half proved to be a tougher battle as the Greyhounds put up 27 points and held the Penguins to only 26. Even though Loyal outscored Tri-County in the second, the Penguins ended the game with a score of 60-51, including 12 of 17 free throws.
