Tri-County junior Sarah Lauer makes a shot against Wild Rose senior Haley Stoll in the Lady Penguins’ 50-35 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Regional Semifinal victory over the Ladycats. Lauer finished the game with 13 points.

Lady Penguins defeat Wild Rose, 50-35

With a packed gymnasium, the Tri-County Lady Penguins hosted the Wild Rose Ladycats for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 5 Regional Semifinals on Feb. 27.

The Ladycats fought a tough battle, but Tri-County showed their strong offense and defense walking away with the 50-35 victory.

Tri-County junior Sarah Lauer recorded the first four points for the game on back-to-back jumpers. After being fouled by Lauer, Wild Rose sophomore Ashley Mendoza made 1 of 2 free throws. 

Senior Isabella Weekly added 2 points to give the Lady Penguins a 6-1 lead. Wild Rose senior Johanna Shepard made 1 of 2 free throws after being fouled by Tri-County freshman Brooke Hopkins.

Lady Penguin Macy Klabunde added 2 points followed by an additional 2 from Weekly to give Tri-County an 8 point lead, 10-2.

Wild Rose junior Breanne Marchan added 5 consecutive points, including a shot from beyond the arc. Lady Penguins junior Emily Wills recorded the final 2 points of the first quarter making the score 12-7.
