Hornets defeat Nekoosa in first round of playoffs

As the number three seed in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 3 playoffs, Wautoma hosted their South Central Conference rival and number six seed the Nekoosa Papermakers on March 3.

Not allowing their season to come to an early end in front of their fans, the Hornets were able to defeat Nekoosa, 55-46.

Showing their offensive prowess, the Hornets came out big in the first half, scoring six three pointers from four players allowing Wautoma to take a 25-16 lead at the half.

Wautoma junior Sam Van Allen found his sweet spot behind the arc hitting 3 three-pointers in the first half, while Dakota Wilcox, Alex Rheinheimer, and Jack Eagan each tallied one.

The Papermakers brought the fight with them heading in the second, with strong defense and offense coming from many of their players. Nekoosa’s Matt McDonald and Riley Erickson each hit three-pointers in the third quarter, but the Hornets answered with Nolan Hinz and Eagan each hitting three’s.
