Eagles defeat Port Edwards 59-49

The Almond-Bancroft boys basketball team pulled off a 59-49 victory over the Port Edwards Blackhawks on Feb. 22 in their final Central Wisconsin Conference-South matchup of the season.

The first half of the game was much closer than the Eagles and their fans would have liked as they entered halftime with a 3-point lead, 26-23, over the Blackhawks. Junior Noah Kollock and senior Derek Baumgartner led the Eagles in the half with 8 points each, including two 3-pointers by Kollock.

The teams battled at the start of the second and even though the Eagles were able to extend their lead, Port Edwards caught up. The teams continued to alternate scoring for the first several minutes of the second half.

With some hard work and determination, the Eagles were able to pull ahead on a 20-7 run near the end of the game, ultimately outscoring the Blackhawks 33-26 in the second half, with help from Baumgartner’s 14 points.
