Wautoma High School to present timeless classic: “The Importance of Being Earnest”

The McComb Bruchs PAC lights will once again shine for the Wautoma High School production of “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde on April 1 and 2 at 7 p.m.

Oscar Wilde’s timeless play centers around Jack and his best friend Algernon who are each living double lives. Jack Worthing has created himself another identity. Jack is Ernest and Ernest is Jack, trying to navigate a double identity and a single love, Gwendolen Fairfax, the cousin of Algernon. Gwedolen is led to believe Jack’s name is Ernest while Algernon is doing his best to win the affections of the lovely Cecily. Algernon does so while also maneuvering his own web of lies with a double life of his own. This romantic comedy is one of the many classics written by Oscar Wilde and is a send-up of the English aristocracy.

Nine cast members have been working closely together to put on an amazing show. The 2022 Spring Play cast includes Emilio Grimm as Jack/Ernest Worthing, Greggory Hammel as Algernon Moncrieff, Veronica Hernandez as Lady Bracknell, Falyn Krempp as Gwendolen Fairfax, Sophia Mager as Cecily Cardew, Alyssa Szymanski as Miss Prism, Rev. Canon Chasuble as Zach Smith, Teighan Fancher as Lane, and Ashley Rivera Dominguez as Merriman. Anneliese Mager will be in charge of lights, Abbagail Zindars and Lily Schmidt on Stage Crew, and Natalie Perkins is in charge of Art Design.

This year’s production is directed by Wautoma High School English Teacher, Jake Mathias.

Promotional materials for the play were also all created within the school by students Hayden Binning, Parker Kanaman, and Julissa Nino along with their teacher Wendy Appel.
