Wautoma/Wild Rose’s Girl Harriers win SCC Cross Country meet

Led by five finishers in the top 10, the Wautoma/Wild Rose Girls Cross Country team placed first at the South Central Conference Cross Country Championships held Oct. 16 at the Moundview Golf Course in Friendship. Team scores were Wautoma/Wild Rose 26, Wisconsin Dells 34, Mauston 91, Westfield 108, and Adams-Friendship 121.

Mya Bahr became the third girl in team history to win a conference title, cruising through the finish in a time of 20:26 for 5,000 meters. Teagan Reitz finished fourth, Madylyn Woyak 6th, and Laney Panich 7th. All four girls earned All-South Central Conference Second Team Honors as a result of their finishes. Jaidyn Knueppel finished 15th and Clare Williams 24th to round out the Hornet/Wildcat varsity finishers.

The Hornet/Wildcat Girls were also the South Central Conference Junior Varsity champions, scoring a perfect 15 points. Layla Graser was the individual Junior Varsity champion, with Esther Brooks finishing second, Isybela Woyak third, Kinsey Reynolds fifth, Nina Skweres seventh, and Falyn Krempp eighth.

The Hornet/Wildcat Boy runners finished second at the South Central Conference Cross Championships. Mauston won the team title with 23 points, followed by Wautoma/Wild Rose with 54 points, Nekoosa/Port Edwards 81, Wisconsin Dells 82 with Westfield and Adams-Friendship having incomplete teams.

For the Hornet/Wildcat boys, Aidan Doherty finished second and Ashton Schwartzman third. Both runners earned All-South Central Conference First Team Honors, each for the third time in their Cross Country careers. Elijah Williams finished 18th, Wyatt McComb 22nd, Caleb Dobbertin 24th, Andrew Skogstad 27th, and Foster Skweres 35th. In the Junior Varsity Race, Mason Heuer finished 16th.

The next action for the Hornet/Wildcat Harriers was at the WIAA Sub-sectional Meet on Oct. 20, at Poynettes’s Shepherd’s Meadow Golf Course. The top two teams and top five individuals in each division qualify for the WIAA Sectional the following Saturday at Winneconne High School.
