Wautoma Hornets bring home win against Richland Center

The Wautoma Hornets brought home a 33-16 victory against the Richland Center Hornets.

The game did not start off great for Wautoma, with touchdown by Kolten Stibbe for a 63-yard gain and extra point by Zach Hillers getting Richland Center ahead 7-0 with 11:12 on the clock. Two more field goals gave Richland Center a 13-0 lead to end the first quarter.

Wautoma stung back in the second quarter. Carson Armstrong managed to complete a pass to Christian Weiss for a 20-yard gain, getting 6 points with 6:31 on the clock. Another completed pass by Armstrong to Weiss followed by a 2-point conversion gave the Wautoma Hornets a 1 point lead. Brett Salm ended the second quarter scoring action with a touchdown run and a 1-yard gain. The Wautoma Hornets went into halftime with a 20-13 lead.

Neither team was able to score in the third quarter. Going into the final quarter of the game, Richland Center’s Hillers successfully made a field goal for a 38-gain, closing the gap 16-20. Wautoma went into action with only 1:29 left in the game. A touchdown run by Salm for a 45-yard gain gave the Wautoma Hornets a 26-16 advantage. A fumble returned the ball to Wautoma, giving Hunter Helf a chance for a touchdown. An extra point by Weiss gave the Wautoma Hornets their 33-16 win.

Carson Armstrong was able to complete 6 passes for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns. Christian Weiss received 6 passes for 77 yards, scoring 2 touchdowns. Brett Salm ran the ball 79 yards, scoring 2 touchdowns.

The Wautoma Hornets will face off against Wisconsin Dells on Friday, Sept. 30. The Wautoma Homecoming game will take place on Friday, Oct. 14 against the Westfield Pioneers.
