It wasn’t for lack of effort when the Wild Rose Ladycats dropped three straight volleyball games to the Port Edwards Lady Blackhawks in Sept. 20 action.

“We’re young, it’ll get easier,” pointed out Wild Rose Head Coach Jason Kirby, “They’ll get better the more volleyball they play together.”

The first game of the night ended with a 14-25 score.

In the first half of the second game the visitors had at least a 4-point run going for. A 16-7 lead before the scoring got slowed down. It eventually ended with a 25-12 win for Port Edwards on a 2-point service.

The Lady Blackhawks got off to a 2-0 lead in the third game before the Ladycats came back with a 3-2 lead with the help of a 2-point service from Lilly Luchini. A short time later the hosts possessed an 8-4 lead with a 4-point service run from Gracie Thompson. Then the visitors took over. Bella Hanten put in an 8-point service run for a 13-8 Port Edwards lead. Annie Friday got in her head to possibly put the game out of reach with a 6-point service run for a 20-10 Lady Blackhawk lead. Kate Hewitt sealed the deal with a 4-point service run for a 25-12 win for Port Edwards. The last serve hit the net, slowly made its way over the net and strategically fell to the floor without the Ladycats being able to return the ball.

Gracie Thompson put in 7 service points for Wild Rose, while Lilly Luchini had 3 service aces. Ella Tratz had 6 assists on the night.

Emica Marquez had 10 digs, while Abbie McCardell had 6 kills. McCardell and Thompson teamed up for numerous blocks in the match.
