Lady Hornets softball falls to the Wolves

Subhead
The Wautoma Lady Hornet softball team lost 4-3 to the host Winneconne Lady Wolves on a windy day on April 6. Wautoma was able to score first in the third inning off of a lead-off double by Ava Butt, Bryn Gunderson sac bunt and then Braelynn Pica sacrifice RBI. However, Winneconne answered right back with two runs to take the lead 2-1 on a Hornet miscue. The Wolves would add another run in both the fifth and sixth inning to stretch the advantage to 4-1 heading into the seventh inning. Wautoma fought to the bitter end all with two outs as Ava Stahl singled, Brianna Buechner singled and Sydney Dunn crushed a 3-run triple over the right fielders head to make it 4-3. Ava Butt missed on her opportunity to tie it up while flying out to the right fielder down the line. “Liv Cieslik pitched great enough to win unfortunately a credit to Winneconne they made the crucial plays and we did not,” Coach Butt mentioned. Coach Butt also added how the Lady Wolves struck out six times to their three while we out hit them nine to six. Wautoma’s tallied nine hits came from Dunn (3x4, 3B, 2 RBI’s), Buechner (2x4, run), Butt (1x3, 2B), Stahl (1x4, run), Gunderson (1x2, sac) and Cieslik (1x2, 2 SB’s, sac). The loss puts the Hornet overall record to 2-4 with an away game on April 10 at Princeton-Green Lake followed up with the SCC Conference opener home versus the Westfield Pioneers on April 13.
