Local resident expresses his opinion on background checks

To the Editor:

It appears the weapon of choice in mass murders in the U.S. is the semi-automatic rifle. Fifty-eight innocent victims in Las Vegas, 26 killed in Sutherland Springs church, and now 17 school children at Stoneman Douglas High School.

Certainly, the National Rifle Association and its members bear some responsibility for the intense lobbying pressure that prevents Congress from passing stronger background checks on individuals who purchase these weapons of war and restrictions on military style weapons.

I encourage all NRA members to write to the NRA to support universal background checks, elimination of large ammunition clips and the elimination of military style weapons.
