Marcus David Kraus, age 59, of Appleton, died peacefully on March 14, 2022 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, after a short illness with his family by his side.

He was born December 6, 1962, in Des Plaines, IL. At age 4 the family moved to Marinette and in 1970 to Berlin.

Marcus attended St John Lutheran School and Church and Berlin High School graduating in 1981. He later attended the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and Marian University, Fond du Lac where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Communication.

He moved to California in 1987 and worked in the motion picture industry. He launched into his Hollywood adventure as a camera department supervisor for Dream Quest Images and became VP of the visual effects camera department at Sony Pictures Imageworks. His name can be found in the credit crawl of many major feature films.

In 1998 he moved back to Wisconsin to raise his daughter, Anna.

As of late, Marcus was a Key Support Team Specialist at Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

His passions included creating, from scratch, exact replicas of movie props including a perfectly accurate R2D2. Many of his creations were sold to enthusiasts all around the country.

Marcus was also an incredibly talented writer, both independently and professionally. Bringing the magic of his words to advertisements and personal creative ventures alike. This passion for, “really nailing it,” lives on his daughter’s love of writing.

Marcus is survived by his daughter, Anna of Studio City, CA; his parents Richard and Leitha Kraus, Pine River; brother, Kevin Kraus (Michelle) of Montello; nieces, Michaela, Miranda and Madeline Kraus of Montello; Uncle, Marvin Andersen of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Cousins, Kjersten Ivarson (Jeff) of Sterling IL, Blaine Andersen of Oskaloosa Iowa, and Kira Stewart (Tom) of Mercer Island,WA; and other family friends and relatives.

Preceding Marcus in death were grandparents, Marcus and Anna Andersen, and David Sr and Julia Kraus; Uncle, David Kraus Jr.; Aunts, Karolyn Andersen and Janice Kraus; and infant niece, Marissa Kraus.

Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Marcus’ wishes there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, immediate family will gather at a later date for a celebration of his life.
