Lucille Ann “Tootie” Nitzke, age 84, of Berlin, died peacefully at home on Thursday, September 21, 2023.
She was born June 19, 1939, in Berlin, the daughter of Clifford and Lucille Piekarski Kalupa. She was a 1957 graduate of Berlin High School and attended Wisconsin State University (Oshkosh). On October 1, 1960, she was united in marriage to Stuart Nitzke.
Tootie’s first job was as a switchboard operator for Wisconsin Bell. She enjoyed being a clerk at Berlin Pharmacy and a secretary at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin. Tootie was a partner in Four Way Construction for many years; however, her favorite job was being a mother. She made their home a comfortable place for everyone to feel loved and like part of the family. Tootie enjoyed gardening, cooking and had a passion for horses. Tootie and Stu enjoyed traveling and skiing out west.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Grutzmacher; son, Frank (Lori) Nitzke; grandchildren, Katelyn (Jason) Cox, McKala Nitzke, Joshua Nitzke, Aaron Grutzmacher, Amber Grutzmacher, Lucas (Clara Syring) Grutzmacher; special grandson, Brandon Hale; great-grandchildren, Leighton and Raelyn Cox; favorite sister, Valerie Jean Sprague, two brothers, Clifford “Bud” (Fran) Kalupa and Dan (Jean Ann) Kalupa; sister-in-law, Joanne Carlovsky; brother-in-law, Harris “Butch” (Carol) Nitzke; and nieces and nephews. Tootie was preceded in death by her husband, Stu, on June 17, 2022; parents; great-grandson, August; and brother-in-law, Ray Sprague.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin.
