Was born to Eternal Life on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the age of 85, She was born in Winnipeg Canada, daughter of the late Robert & Leona Pedlar, and stepdaughter of the late James Nelson. Laurie grew up in St. Charles Winnipeg, Canada, as well as Bowesmont, North Dakota and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1958.
She married the love of her life Donald “Don” A. Walczak on October 7, 1961, in Milwaukee, WI.
Laurie and Don were actively involved in the Special Olympics of Wisconsin for several decades and were passionate about helping our special needs friends and families. Laurie loved her Lake Huron home and all the wonderful times spent with her children, grandchildren, friends, and family. The Lake is filled with a lifetime of beautiful memories for all. Laurie adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very affectionately referred to as “Moo”. Moo made marvelous Christmas cookies and she would always bake her grandchildren’s favorites. She also loved to plant flowers and the cottage was always surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants. Laurie was also actively involved for many years with her wonderful lady friends from TOPS in Wautoma and enjoyed their friendship.
Laurie is survived by her husband Donald of 62 years; daughters Tracy (George) Kopf, and Julie Walczak; grandchildren Megan Kopf, Ryan Kopf, Jennifer Hans and Stacey Beistle; great-grandchildren Layla and Levi Beistle, and Elyse Gladieux. She is further survived by siblings Roy Pedlar, and Janice Peterson; siblings-in-law Robert (Bobbie), Richard (Barbara), and Thomas (Kathy) Walczak; other relatives and friends. Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Nelson; sister-in-law Louise Gehrke, and brother-in-law Leo McKinnon.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 12:00PM until the time of the 2:00PM Funeral Service at The Wisconsin Memorial Park, Family Center, 13037 W. Capital Dr., Brookfield, WI 53005. The entombment will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Special Olympics would be appreciated.
