Herbert Karl Lucht of Wautoma, passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 9, 2023. He was born on June 29, 1933, in the Town of Lanark, Portage County, Wisconsin to the late William Lucht and Agnes (Boelter) Lucht. Herbert, along with his two brothers, Frederick W. Lucht and Robert Lucht, joined the United States Navy in 1952 where they served together aboard the U.S.S. Francis M. Robinson Navy ship during the Korean War, where Herbert served as a gunner mate. Upon his honorable discharge, Herbert went on to marry the love of his life, Caroline Zeinert, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa, WI on April 27, 1963. Herbert, alongside his brothers, farmed together, operated a trucking business and Herbert worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a devoted member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waupaca.
He was a caring and loving husband who was proud of his military service and thought the world of his family. Spending time with his grandchildren became the center of his life and they had a special place in his heart. He enjoyed family gatherings, watching the wildlife from his picture window, his daily drives to watch the farm crops green and ripen and monitor the irrigation systems in the fields, assisting Caroline in baking her delicious apple pies, traveling, and occasionally sneaking off to the casino with Caroline. He had a quick wit and keen sense of humor that was infectious and treasured by those he loved.
He is survived by his five children, Edward Lucht (Robyn) of Wautoma, Sarah Lucht (Gary Worm) of Amherst, Karen Bergsbaken (Tim) of Amherst, Herbert Lucht (Lisa) of Amherst, and Michael Lucht (Patty Boutwell) of Ogdensburg.
