Donald B. Herbst, age 83, of Redgranite, died Saturday, August 6, 2022. He was born November 4, 1938, in Oshkosh to the late Anton and Margaret (Conlin) Herbst. His paternal grandparents were Ludwig and Friedelena (King) Herbst and maternal grandparents were John and Julia (Broderick) Conlin.
Donald attended school in Winneconne and on June 13, 1959, he married Donna Decker, daughter of Delbert and Madge (Lockhart) Decker. They were married at St. Thomas Church in Poygan by Fr. John Quigley. Donald and Donna were blessed with four great sons, David, Daniel, Dale, and Dell.
Donald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna; four sons and their families, David and Lisa (Tyers) Herbst, Daniel and Cynthia (Hertzberg) Herbst, Dale and Peggy (Halder) Herbst, Dell and Tina (Mitchell) Herbst; grandchildren, Beau and Jackie (McFarland) Herbst, Dallas and Shannon (Monroe) Herbst, Kaitlyn (Herbst) and Christopher Wollum, Hanna (Herbst) and Brook Stermer, Phoenix (Herbst) and Bryce Wenzel, Nash Herbst (friend, Amanda), Santana Herbst (friend, Bob), Dylan Herbst, Cole Herbst and Peter Gulgowski; step-grandchildren, Abby Craig, Scott Craig; great-grandchildren, David Herbst, Brynley Herbst, Lily Herbst, Korrie Herbst, Milo Wenzel, Berkley Wenzel, Lennon Stermer, Augden Wollum, Ryder Rose Wenzel; brother, sisters-in-law, and brother-in-law, Arden and Ellen Herbst, Robert and Sally Decker; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents and grandparents, Donald was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Harold “Sonny” and Nancy (Paulick) Herbst; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlette (Herbst) and James Lee, Marcellas “Marcy” (Herbst) and Milton Bahrke; and two nieces, Marianne (Bahrke) Fauk and Jennifer Decker.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, August 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. Visitation will continue on Friday, August 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Lunch will follow. Burial will be on Friday at St. Thomas Cemetery, Poygan following the luncheon.
