BERNARD “BERNIE” SEAMAN

Bernard “Bernie” Joseph Seaman age 83, of Almond, WI sailed off into the clear blue waters on February 21, 2021.  He was born April 8, 1937 on the farm in Berlin, WI to Carl and Joanne Lesnaik Seaman.  He attended Rabbit School, a rural country school and graduated from the Berlin School District.

Bernie proudly served his county in the US Navy from December 1955 - December 1977.  Stationed in the United States in Virginia and Skaggs Island, California, he also did tours in Germany, Cyprus, Morocco, Turkey, Spain, Japan, The Red Sea and Africa.  During this time he served on the USS Forrestal, USS Saratoga, USS Mt Whitney, USS Georgetown, USS Flying Fish, USS Sea Devil and the USS Tautaug.   

After his Navy retirement Bernie worked a short time for the Green Lake County Sheriff’s department as a radio dispatcher.  While working there he met and married the love of his life Nancy (Mehne) (Ottman).  They were married December 16, 1978 where they continued to live on a farm just outside of town. Bernie worked for a couple years at Fleet Farm in Stevens Point before continuing his next chapter working as head of maintenance at the Almond-Bancroft School District.  He moved into the liquid control meter business after leaving the school district working for Great Lakes Meter, Kleespie Meters and ultimately going into business for himself.  After retirement he worked part time for H. J. Martens.

Bernie was a member of the Almond United Methodist Church serving as an usher and scripture reader.  He was a 4- H leader for 40 years with the Almond Busy Bees 4-H Club and served on the Market Animal Committee for the county.  He also was a member of the Almond Rod & Gun Club and the Almond Lions Club and was a hunter safety instructor for over 25 years. On September 2, 2019 Bernie was honored to be part of the Never Forgotten Honor Flight to Washington D.C.  He was presented with the Quilt of Valor.

Bernie also enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He went on many trips to South Dakota pheasant hunting with his brother-in-law and nephews and enjoyed deer hunting.

Bernie is survived by his wife Nancy; children, Christopher Ottman and Richard (Jennifer) Ottman, Jerry (Kelly) Ottman, Lisa (Craig) Porter and Alex (Lisa) Ottman. Grandchildren Bryce, Riley, Madilynn, Alexander, Delaney, Mallory, Amber, Jared and Jordon; and many great grandchildren.  He is further survived by sisters Barbara (David) Eagan and Rose Ann (Ronald) Roggow, brother Richard (Louise) Seaman and sister-in-law Nancy (Donald) Seaman.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Joanne Seaman, step-father Alfred Smasal, brothers Lawrence and Donald Seaman.   

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Bernie’s memory to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.   

Public  visitation will be held on Friday March 5, 2021 from 4:00 p.m.  – 7:00  p.m. at the Stahl Funeral Home located  on  Hwy 73 in Plainfield, Wisconsin.   Due to COVID  19, a private service  will be held for only immediate family on Saturday at ll:00  a.m.  Masked are recommended to be worn  at both events.  Also due to the COVID  - funeral services will available thru  ZOOM please contact Stahl Funeral Home (715) 335-4300.
