Wautoma softball takes two from Foxes

The Wautoma softball team was able to win a pair of games against the visiting Omro Foxes during the non-conference home double header on March 28 at Bird Creek Park.

Wautoma won the first game 11-4 and took the second game in five innings, 28-13. The Hornets scored five runs in the second inning of Game 1 to build a comfortable lead.

Brianna Jander led off hitting a single and two stolen bases, followed by a MacKenzie Ralls RBI single; Maddie Peterman walk with a couple passed ball scores; Tori Gonzalez single; Karley Reetz RBI sacrifice fly; MacKenzie Koats RBI triple; and Alyssa Borchardt RBI bunt.

Omro would score one in the fourth inning but Wautoma quickly answered back with another run thanks to a Koats RBI double taking the 6-1 lead. However, the Foxes came right back with two more runs due to a couple Hornet miscues yet Wautoma would add another run from an Avery Lehr single and two stolen bases to make it 7-3.

Omro would not go away as they tacked on one more run in the sixth but, again, the Hornets broke out for four runs to stretch the lead to 11-4 with Borchardt’s bases clearing double.

Lehr pitched 4 1/3 solid innings to record the win while surrendering 2 earned runs with 5 strikeouts. Brooke Blader-Lucht provided 2 2/3 innings of quality relief to seal the victory while giving up no earned runs with 4 punch outs of her own.
